This two day workshop provides an overview of all cancers, treatments, side effects, understanding the client and the disease, lymphedema, when, how, why and where to touch, indications and contraindications, specific hands-on modalities, proper positioning & draping, appropriate/inappropriate techniques, client/practitioner safeguards, ethical, legal issues & documentation, hospice & hospital massage, marketing & public speaking. This class will prepare the therapist with all the tools necessary to safely take on cancer clients in any stage of the illness and treatment, including terminal cases. A certificate of completion is received which can be used toward PA or NJ massage license renewal.
Cheryl Chapman, CMT, LMT, RN, HN-BC, NCBTMB, NJSC
Teaches Cancer Massage, Cardiac Massage, Geriatric Massage, Pre and Post Natal Massage and Mastectomy Massage. She is a registered nurse certified in therapeutic massage and bodywork. She is the Director of Professional Massage Therapy in Short Hills, New Jersey. She has a private practice specializing in geriatric, cancer, mastectomy, healthy breast, pre and post natal and infant massage. Cheryl was Director of Nursing for a 128 bed extended care facility where she gained invaluable experience in working with the elderly and aging person. As an RN since 1965 with 10 years as a specialty nurse and hospice oncology and terminal care she integrates this experience into her practice and provides a unique and compassionate service to her clients. Cheryl is a past President of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association. She is active in the National Association of Nurse Massage Therapists, the American Holistic Nurses Association, the N.J. State Nurses Association and the New York Society of Medical Massage Therapists and the Society for Oncology Massage. She is an approved continuing education provider for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork. She teaches Cancer, Mastectomy, Healthy Breast, and Pregnancy massage at various massage schools, spas and conferences throughout the country.
Cheryl has authored the chapter in Geriatric Massage in “Complementary and Alternative Medicine for Older Adults”; “The Happy Breast Book”, seven training manuals and numerous articles on Massage for Professional and National publications. She is the creator of “Phluffing the Girls”, to promote and benefit good breast health. Cheryl teaches throughout the United States, including National AMTA conventions.
